Ashish Patel – Resume (November 2009)

Ashish Patel is a Lead IT Architect working at IBM in Canada. He has over 10 years of industry experience in IT architecture and development, 4 years of business development and entrepreneurial experience, and 2 years of research field experience. Patel has attained many feats to date while working for sever Fortune 100 companies, such as IBM and Shell, and one of Canada’s top providers of energy, EPCOR Corporation.

Prior to joining IBM, Ashish founded a privately-held software development and consultancy firm, BlueShift Innovations Inc. Patel was appointed the President and Chairman of the corporation, which he operated for 4 years. BlueShift Innovations Inc. is a company founded on principles of open computing and is proud to use open source as the foundation for developing web-based solutions for small-and-medium businesses. Patel led the company in deal making with customers and forging strategic partnerships with media design firms to create new sales channels for the business, which led to 400% revenue growth YTY over 3 successive years.

In 2004, Ashish was selected to participate in IBM’s premiere internship program, Extreme Blue, where he co-founded the IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit (IPOT) (also known as Rational Application Performance Analyst): first-of-a-kind problem determination toolkit that provides cross-brand integration between IBM Rational and IBM Tivoli products. During the 12-week program, Patel had the opportunity to present his work to several senior IBM Executives, including Sam Palmisano, CEO and Chairman of IBM, and Steven Mills, Senior Group Vice-President of IBM.

Since 2004, Patel has focused on IT architecture and development of enterprise performance and security management tools based on the Eclipse platform for IBM’s Automated Software Quality (ASQ) organization. Ashish has been recognized as an expert in leveraging The Open Group’s Application Response Measurement (ARM) standard and has also been an industry advocate for the standard.  He has wealth of experience with the Eclipse Platform, IBM Rational Application Developer and Rational Performance Tester, IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Tivoli Composite Application Manager, and IBM WebSphere.

In 2007, Patel was selected to architect and lead new product development for Watchfire Corporation, an industry leader in security and compliance of websites that was acquired by IBM.  Rational AppScan Developer and Build Edition were created under his leadership.  These products bring together dynamic, static, and runtime security analysis of web applications under a single, seamless tool experience.

In 2008, Ashish was 1 of 4 selected to participate in IBM’s Accelerated Leadership Program. Over a 2-year period, Patel will play key roles throughout the IBM Global Services unit such as in Strategic Outsourcing for the Financial Services and Insurance Sector and the Telecommunications Sector, and in Integrated Technology Services for Mobility and Cloud Computing.  Ashish has been focusing on strategic consulting and architecting solutions for the emerging business opportunities surrounding virtualization and cloud computing technologies.

In 2010, Ashish will embark on a global humanitarian and corporate responsibility initiative known as the IBM Corporate Service Corps program.  He will be deployed to a remote village of a developing country, with a team formed from IBM employees around the world, to utilize his business, technology, and leadership skills to further develop certain aspects of life in the village.

Patel is often publicly speaking at business and technology conferences, such as the National Impact Conference for Entrepreneurs, Computer Measurement Conference (CMG) and IBM Rational Software Development Conference (RSDC), as well as many others. He also enjoys mentoring students and early career professional.

Ashish has graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering with Distinction in the Cooperative Education program from the University of Alberta in 2005.
